Tiger Cubs

The Tiger Cubs curriculum is specifically designed for children ages 3 to 4. Each child will experience training that targets the skills that they are currently developing; skills such as coordination, memorization, focus, control, motor skills, teamwork, balance, general fitness, behavior and character development. These skills have been broken down into fun, age-specific, safe exercises, games, activities, and drills that compliment their stage of development.

Three to four year olds love physical activity and anything involving play. They have a rich imagination and strong desire to be less dependent. The problem is that many children have a hard time with structure in a group environment like what is commonly found in most Martial Arts programs.

The solution we found is to provide them with their own program that targets their current stage of development in a manner that keeps them entertained while at the same time building skills that set them up for success. A structured program introducing early skill-based training in martial arts has proven to be very successful.

By understanding the stages of development of 3 & 4 year olds, we were able to focus on 8 age-appropriate skills that make up the Tiger Cubs program:

8 age-appropriate skills

  • Kicking – Front kicking in the air, alternating legs.

  • Punching – Straight punching in the air, alternating arms.

  • Blocking – High blocking in the air, alternating arms.

  • Crawling – Bear crawling across the mat. They will be able to bear crawl up and down the floor without their knees or elbows touching the mat.

  • Hopping – Hopping down the floor with both feet. They will be taught to hop down the mat with both feet together, without falling.

  • Rolling – Rolling a ball down the floor. They will be able to roll a ball down the floor while alternating hands, keeping at least one hand on the ball at all times.

  • Running – Running down the floor. They will be able to run down the floor as fast as possible without falling.

  • Catching – Catching a ball thrown underhand from one step away. They will be able to catch a ball.

We use early elements of traditional Martial Arts curriculums to build skills that are appropriate for 3 and 4 year olds. This means that your child will learn and grow at a pace that is not too easy, nor too challenging. The best part is the Tiger Cubs program will equip your child with skills that they will utilize in every area of their life!

Some of the Benefits of our Tiger Cubs Program

  • Basic Self-Defense – Our instructors have trained to make sure everything we teach is reality based. Your child is still in the developmental stage of their life and will focus only on the basics of our school. Basic Techniques include: Proper exercise form, punching, kicking, blocking and evasion techniques.

  • Focusing and Listening – We know Focus plays a key role in the mindset of children who have limited attention spans at this stage in their life. Our Program will build their attention span… teaching your child to focus on the task at hand while improving their listening and reaction skills at the same time. As a result, your child will excel in physical activity, improve their ability to stay focused, and become an astute listener at Ching Sai Do, at home, and in school.

  • Teamwork and Positive Social Interaction – Teamwork is necessary for any young child to develop. It is at this stage in their life that they develop an understanding and a confidence in their ability to work with others. Our activity based curriculum and teamwork oriented environment, develops character and teaches your child that the more we work together in the dojo, at home and at school…the more we get accomplished.

  • Self-Control and Good Decision Making – Self-control refers to the training that one gives one’s self to accomplish a certain task or to adopt a particular pattern of behavior, even though one is unfocused or would rather be doing something else. For example, when your child has learned to listen to mom and dad, pay attention in class while listening to the teacher instead of talking to his friend next to him, he has demonstrated the ability to self-control… while making the good decision to do so.

  • Self-Discipline and Responsibility – We are masters at creating a vision for your child that self-discipline is fun and rewarding. We instill this vision through interactive and teamwork oriented games, drills and real world activities. Your child will begin to improve their ability to initiate accountability, follow directions and take pride in doing the right thing.

  • Coordination and Motor Skills – Our Tiger Cubs program will help children improve: general health, sports performance, as well as other physical activities such as dancing or bike riding. This training will develop your child’s cardiovascular system, their muscular strength, and will create a general kind of body awareness. Your child will be more coordinated, less susceptible to injuries, and be much more aware of their body and how to use it correctly.
